What to do and what to plant in March 2025

March is a big month for gardening in Florida. From my experience over the last 15 years, this is the prime month to have the spring garden planted. When focusing on gardening organically without pesticides or herbicides, March is ideal. By June the pressure of the insects increases along with the pressure of plant diseases. Starting your garden now will allow the plants to be resilient by the time the harsh summer weather arrives.

What should I do now?

• weed and remove any old plants from your garden beds

• test your irrigation system and ensure it’s functioning properly

• amend the soil if you’re planting heavy feeders such as tomatoes, peppers, corn, squash, melons

• add a layer of compost to your beds

• pickup your organic plant starts from The Organic Harvest

• plant a combination of vegetables, herbs and flowers
